Why Yorkshire, England Makes A Great Dog-Friendly Destination

Yorkshire is a beautiful place to explore and the best partner in crime for this activity is none other than your own dog. Your furry friend is always eager to discover new places, meet new people and other dogs. With lots of gardens, museums and castles and some fantastic pet friendly hotels in Yorkshire, this part of England makes a great dog-friendly destination!

Gardens and hikes

Yorkshire is packed with amazing places where you can walk with your dog. Runswick Bay is one of the best dog-friendly walks in the area, offering sandy strips of coastline and beautiful scenery. You can even let your dog free and try to swim together. Wessenden Valley Circular offers picturesque views over the open fields where your dog can run and play as long as they want.

When it comes to gardens, you can enjoy Helmsley Walled Garden,  Yorkshire Arboretum or Burton Agnes Hall Gardens with your dog. Walk along the beautiful flowers and soak up their perfume, relaxing with your furry friend.

Hotels and cottages

Yorkshire is truly dog-friendly, so you don’t have to worry about accommodation for your puppy. The Talbot is a majestic hall which offers large rooms to visitors and their pet friends. The rooms are equipped with dog rugs and bowls, so your dog is going to feel like home.

Other dog-friendly hotels and cottages are The White Swan, located in the market town of Pickering, The Traddock, a Georgian house hotel surrounded by a large garden where your dog can run and sniff as much as they want and The Blue Lion, where your puppy can lie down in front of a cozy fire and enjoy the country, 18thcentury atmosphere of the inn, as you sip your tea.

Castles and manors

Yorkshire makes a great dog-friendly destination because you can take your dog to visit the main local attractions. Dogs on leash are welcomed to Scarborough Castle, which offers panoramic views over the coastline. Burton Agnes Manor House is another dog-friendly place where you can enjoy the medieval atmosphere. One of the oldest castles in the area, the Skipsea, built in 1086 also welcomes dogs. For a more spiritual experience, take a walk along the Rievaulx Abbey ruins and explore the museum.

Cafes

After a long walk along the coast or a history lesson at a castle you want to grab something to eat and have a drink. Your dog also needs to unwind in front of a water bowl, so you can head to one of the many dog-friendly cafes in  Yorkshire. Tia Rescue is a cafe located on a farm in South Yorkshire where you can enjoy fresh cakes and your dog can have some homemade treats. The Carpenters Arms, Felixkirk, has a rustic pub where dogs can enjoy a nap in front of the log fire while their humans enjoy a local beer and the slow braised  Yorkshire lamb.

Yorkshire is not only a beautiful county, but it’s also one of the best destinations for a trip with your puppy. You will always find a garden where you can relax and admire the nature, a hike where your run can run free and a cozy pub where you can both enjoy something to eat and drink. All these make  Yorkshire a great dog-friendly destination.
