Research paper: Finally done! Adopting vs. buying dogs at the pet store?
Question: Research paper: Finally done! Adopting vs. buying dogs at the pet store?
As you all may remember, I asked a couple of questions on my research paper in the past couple of months reguarding Adoption vs. Buying pups from the pet store. First, I want to than you because I got some great ideas as well as a great title with the community’s help!
Also, someone asked if it would be available to see when I’m done, and I’ve decided to post it so you all may read it and give me your added input and thoughts to improve it if needed. It was hard to not repeat “Pet store” “Puppies” and “Puppy mills” along with other things, so hopefully it will turn out alright. It’s due tomorrow, so this is the last chance I have to change it.
Thanks once again, and here’s a link:

The only way you can view it is to download it unfortunately, though. Hope it works.

What is wrong with buying a dog from a petstore? How is buying a dog from a shelter “saving a life”?
Question: What is wrong with buying a dog from a petstore? How is buying a dog from a shelter “saving a life”?
I think most people who believe this have jumped into some sort of bandwagon and are prone to bias.
How is buying a dog from a shelter “saving a life”? Wouldn’t it not matter whether you got the dog from a pet store or a shelter, as long as it is brought and cared for? Isn’t buying a dog in the first place saving a life? Yeah, the dogs in the shelters may be euthanized but the ones in the pet stores will be too eventually or either taken over to a shelter and euthanized. So either way, placement doesn’t really make a difference. Also, does it really matter where the dog came from originally? Yeah a pet store dog may have (but not necessarily) come from a mill, but one in a shelter may have came from the streets or an abusive family. A place worst than a mill. And one in a shelter may have even originated in a mill before it got to the shelter. So should we only love and care for shelter dogs and leave those poor pet store dogs there to die? Is the being of a dog born in a pet store worth any less than one from a shelter? Is it really moral to ignore all the pet store dogs and talk down on them like their being is worth nothing and put the shelter dogs on a pedestal?
Should all the poor pet store dogs be ignored even though they have no control over where they were placed to be sold? Think about it? Also just because someone buys a dog from a pet store, that doesn’t necessarily mean they intentionally support mills. And in that state of thinking, wouldn’t getting a dog from a shelter be supporting euthanasia?
Like seriously, if I (for example) were to decide to buy a dog from a pet store, respect my decision and leave me alone. You yelling at me and cussing at me wouldn’t convince me to buy one from a shelter, it would convince me to the contrary. Next time you hear of someone buying a dog from a pet store, if you absolutely must, educate them nicely, (even though they weren’t asking for that info in the 1st place). Don’t yell and scream in caps like an immature individual calling them immature as if they must automatically know where the dog comes from. As if they purposely and intentionally decided to buy a dog from a pet store because they enjoy the fact the dog may have come from a mill, which isn’t the case. And if they do decide to buy the dog from a pet store, just leave it. You won’t convince them out of it especially in the rude manner a lot of you do in this section. I’m just telling you this because I have found this section to be one of the rudest on Y!A to some of the so called, less “educated people” or to people who you don’t agree with.
So other than that, why do you think that the being of a shelter dog is worth more than that or a pet store dog? How is adopting a dog from a pet store “saving a life”?
But if we were never to buy from pet stores, and the animals there were unwanted, the pet store animals would eventually be euthanized too. If not, they’d be taken to a shelter and euthanized. Also, if you saying buying from a pet store is supporting mills, isn’t buying from a shelter suppoerting euthanasia?
I never said puppy mills were just as bad as the streets. I used the streets as an example and in addition said a place worst than the streets. Also, not all pets sold at pet stores come from puppy mills. Some of the ones around my area come from shelters. Either way, you are ignoring innocent dogs.
@Rayven, I wasn’t even referring to your post. And I was talking about a cat, not a dog. Your answer was just one of the answers to remind me of some of the rudeness in this section that made me decide to post this question.
So either way, you’re either supporting death, or abuse. Which one is worst?

Isn’t buying a dog from the pet store “saving” it?
Question: Isn’t buying a dog from the pet store “saving” it?
I understand the whole “it supports puppy mills” argument. But, does that mean we should let those poor puppies suffer in those evil stores, as opposed to purchasing them and giving them a nice home (despite their medical conditions)?

If people stop buying them, then they won’t have to produce anymore to keep up with demand.
